Vows wide open
this was an Illustration done for an article dealing with open marriage. the central character is the only one facing the audience and the composition centers on his bewildered expression. He is further singled out by the other characters, each, preocupied and facing in a different direction

Rawafed is the name of a community newspaper based in the East Berlin neighborhood of Oberschöneweide, a stone's throw from the river Spree. The publication aims to bring around a sense of unity, pluralism and inclusion to the traditionally conservative eastern neighborhood. The editor team is probably the most diverse group of people I have ever seen and the articles on the website are available in Arabic, German, English and occasionally other languages.

CYCLING IS FREEDOM
Illustration for an article about a volunteer organisation which teaches refugee women how to ride bicycles. In their home nations, cycling was rare in general and women especially were discouraged from attempting any physical activity in public. Learning how to ride a bike gives these women a sense of freedom we might all take for granted.

Enthusiasm
The subject of the article was enthusiasm. The character representing the concept is juxtaposed against three very serious and bland companions.
"knocking over one's chair" is a local metaphor for being impatiently over enthusiastic.

EDITOR'S WANTED POSTER
Rawafed is a community newspaper. It relies on volunteers and it's strength comes from having a constant supply of fresh participants eager to get involved.
while working on the poster, I was fortunate enough to experiment with and study various Newspaper formats. I found that the printed word holds endless possibilities to be exploited.

First cover
The cover for the first edition depicts a typical East Berlin view. All elements are utilized to guide the eye towards the famous TV tower in the city center. the tower is far away and cannot truly be seen from this location but every resident of East berlin knows it is there and lives in some relation or other to the city center

LEGACY
In this Illustration, as in reality, Donald J Trump is dismantling former president Barack Obama's legacy one facet at a time.
