One of the greatest and enduring pleasures of my time in Berlin has been working with Peter Merick of Language gym. it is all too seldom when we can work to further something we actualy believe in and Peter has devoted a large portion of his adult years to creating a way to teach languages in a fun and engaging way
Language Gym
A poster advertising Language gym. The campaign was undertaken all over east and west Berlin and was hugely successful. This poster targets people from other countries (as people learning a language are liable to be) with an emphasis on women and mother's in particular. The giraffe was chosen because of the tall format of the medium and because of the pattern on her skin- the method of learning is known as pattern hunting.
special attention was payed to typography and composition with each element receiving it's own unique styling.

"... flying seemed like the more boring option..."
Here we see a series of illustrations for a story used in the teaching of German. The illustrations come as an aid to help pupils recite the words through use of the imagery. When working on this project, I was keenly aware of the need for precise acting and body language as well as a minimum of superflous details.

"... we decided to travel by train..."

"... my brother got angry. I imagined my parents
getting angrier..."

"... after a tense pursuit through the mountains,
we caught up with our train..."

"... we found a shady Roma taxi driver
and bribed the border guards..."
